As the novel coronavirus proliferates on a global scale, an unfortunate side effect of the pandemic is its psychological impact on our mental health. This is an anxiety-provoking and stressful time for everyone but people who already experience a panic and anxiety may find their symptoms worsening. Signs of stress and anxiety include:

  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Digestive problems
  • Fatigue or extreme tiredness
  • Headaches
  • High blood pressure.
  • Irritability
  • Lack of concentration
  • Muscle tension
  • Panic attacks
  • Restlessness
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Weakened immune system

It is important to take care of yourself by using healthy ways that help you to stay strong and resilient during this time.

Bowen technique is recognised as valuable and effective tool for enhancing positive feelings of well-being by reducing tension, depression, anger, fatigue, insomnia, confusion and anxiety.

Additional ways to relieve stress and anxiety include:

  • Avoiding or reducing smoking and alcohol intake
  • Eating healthy and regular meals
  • Exercising, especially in the morning
  • Breathing techniques – Slow breathing decreases panic and anxiety
  • Practicing mindfulness – Mindfulness is the human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, paying attention to our thoughts and feelings and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around
  • Reducing screen time before going to sleep. Instead listening to relaxing music/meditations
  • Before going to sleep a warm bath infused with essential oils like lavender, relaxing salts, or therapeutic herbs will help

If you are feeling overwhelmed and worry excessively after practicing implementing the advice above, please seek professional counselling.
