The most remarkable thing about Bowen Therapy is that it is able to reset the body to heal itself. Our body has an incredible intelligence. It knows exactly what to do. Every cell, every organ, every system know what to do and Bowen Therapy can optimize this function.

The technique uses rolling-type moves of the thumbs and fingers performed at different pressures, speeds and directions on small areas of the body that could be anywhere from head to toes.

The moves are designed to stimulate the superficial and deep fascia and nerve pathways, creating a focus for the brain. Between each series of moves there are important pauses allowing the body time to process and integrate them. During the pauses, people often experience sensations such as warmth, numbness, coldness, tingling, pulsating or heaviness. These sensations are usually an indicator of the tension release in the muscles and tissue (fascia), relaxation of the nervous system and improve flow of energy through the body.

The fascia, or soft tissue, is the part of the connective tissue that envelops, separates and influences every organ and tissue in the body, like a matrix. One reason for the powerful effect of Bowen Therapy may be because the treatment simultaneously affects muscles, joints, ligaments and fascia as well as having a strong calming effect on the autonomic nervous system.

The autonomic nervous system function is shifted from sympathetic, which is turned on during stress and pain, to parasympathetic which is where it needs to be for the body to rest, relax and repair. Through this guiding of autonomic nervous system, Bowen treatment may bring about a profound positive feeling, improving the state of the body and mind.

The autonomic nervous system controls a variety of internal processes including: ·Digestion ·Blood pressure ·Heart rate ·Urination and defecation ·Pupillary response ·Breathing (respiratory) rate ·Sexual response ·Body temperature ·Metabolism ·Electrolyte balance ·Production of body fluids including sweat and saliva ·Emotional responses
